If you opened your own brothel and had lots of money with which to play, what sort of decorating scheme would you use? Keep in mind you could dress up the girls however you wanted as well. |

| networking question |
[Jul. 13th, 2009|11:42 pm] |
Ok, I have a question for all you networking gurus out there. Here's a little background info:
I live in an apt where the "ISP" caps bandwidth at around 1.3Mbps down and 750 up. This is capped per network drop and each user is only "allowed" to register one device on the network. There is one network drop per bedroom and one in the common room. Thankfully they don't have any way to authenticate who is real and who isn't, so as far as they're concerned Barack Obama lives in my apt...and plays a lot of Call of Duty 4 online.
My friend is moving into the same apt complex that I live in, but into a building right next to mine. I'd like to set up a "home network" wirelessly so that I can house a media server at my apt and allow my friend to stream movies and music wirelessly across the network (so that laptop from apt two could stream movies from the server at apt 1). This in itself would be no problem thanks to DD-WRT, however, I'd like to take things a step further and hopefully get some more speed out of the deal. Here's where my (two part)question comes in.
1)Is there a way to connect two pieces of CAT 5 to a router and take advantage of what would be 2.6Mbps down and 1.5 up (I guess this is called trunking...except it would only be on *my* side of things, so it's not a truly trunked line)?
2)Is it possible to have this setup across a wireless bridge between the two apts as depicted in the diagram below? Ideally, there would be two to four public facing IP addresses coming in and firewalled, behind that would be a NAT'd private network that was connected by the two wireless routers.
I may not have explained this correctly, so if you feel like taking a stab at letting me know where to start and what I'm trying to do isn't making sense, just leave me a comment and I'll try to break it down further. Thanks in advance.

Saint Anthony Tormented by Demons, Martin Schongauer (1445-1491)

A lot gets lost in the scan, unfortunately. Speaking of Saint Anthony's torments, here's a version by Felicien Rops (1878)

I took the harddrive out of my laptop, and put it into an external case. Now when I try to access my files from a regular desktop computer it is saying access denied. I've gotten to the point where I can get to the actual pictures, see what they are labeled as and everything, but I don't have access to view it. I've made myself an administrator and it's still not working. Any ideas?
